gerryGerry St. Cyr  |  SportAssist Founder and President

Gerry St. Cyr has been passionate about sports his entire lifetime. He has played team sports from the time he was four years old, learning from a young age the value of dedication and hard work, and then going on to apply these principles in every area of his life. Gerry played professional hockey for eight years, and coached at every level including his role as head coach for Team Canada of roller hockey for two years. He has served as a member of the West Shore Chamber of Commerce, is the current Owner/Operator of Langford Lanes & City Centre Grille as well as the Facility Operator of City Centre Park.
Gerry strongly believes that all children should have the opportunity to participate in team sports, and to connect with their own passions. He is inspired by his 19-year-old son Dylan, his eight-year-old daughter Katie, and new son Len. He recognizes that the entire community benefits when we provide opportunities for our children, and he loves being able to work towards making sure that every child in our community has access to the same opportunities that he had as a child. Gerry keeps pretty busy, but you never see him with a bigger smile on his face than when he is working with kids and helping them to connect with their own dreams, whether big or small.

kristinbwKristin St. Cyr  |  SportAssist Secretary-Treasurer

Langford resident Kristin St. Cyr has always been passionate about making a difference for people in her community. Having grown up in a small, tight knit community, she was able to witness firsthand the powerful impact made when people come together to support each other.
Kristin strongly believes that the mentorship, skills and self-discipline that she gained while participating in youth sports contributed significantly to the success she has experienced in her life, including her full scholarships towards a BSc in honours math, and a MSc in math and the completion of a CPA designation.
Kristin currently works full time as the Manager of Finance and Administration at City Centre Park. She is looking forward to helping ensure that all youth in our community have access to group sports, and the important opportunities for growth and success associated with these experiences.

DSC 9406 2Kyle Douglas  |  SportAssist Director

Originating from Saskatchewan, Kyle was heavily involved with a variety of sports at a young age. Beginning as a competitive hockey and baseball player, he quickly developed into a provincial volleyball and basketball player and participated in many national tournaments. After high school, Kyle went on to play Varsity volleyball for the University of Regina.  After University, Kyle continued in his athletic career representing Saskatchewan in the Adult North American Hockey Championship Hockey, as well as representing Saskatchewan multiple times at the Beach Volleyball Nationals. As a resident of the Langford for almost 5 years, sports have continued to be Kyle’s passion and he is loving watching his daughters Kaeleigh and Sienna becoming involved in competitive athletics and supporting local sports in any way possible.  As a Branch Manager of Island Savings Westshore Branch, he contributes a lot of his success to the leadership, teamwork and drive that he developed as a youth in sports.  After working with SportAssist over the past few years he is extremely excited to become the newest Board Member to join the team.

WendyWendy Hobbs  |  SportAssist Director

Wendy is married, a proud parent of three and a grandmother. Two of her children were actively involved in sports in the Westshore and currently one is involved in Juan de Fuca Minor hockey. She has lived in the Westshore for thirty-two years and currently works as an insurance advisor. Wendy has shown her commitment to youth in our community by being on the SD62 Board of Education for over eighteen years, the past four years as Board Chair. She has been very active on other community boards and advisory committes in the past, including West Shore Parks and Recreation, Langfords’s Planning and Zoning and the Westshore Chamber of Commerce. She knows it takes a community to raise a child and believes with the Sport Assist program we can help children attain  a goal of playing in sports. Being part of a program that gives every child the opportunity to play sports and every parent the ability to feel proud while watching their child participate in sports  is so rewarding.

Blank ProfileIan Taylor  |  SportAssist Director

As VP, Hockey Operations for JDF Minor Hockey Association, I have seen first-hand the positive impact that SportAssist has on our communities. Without the generous contributions and helping hand that SportAssist offers families that need a hand up in difficult times, there would have been far fewer kids
on the ice the past couple of seasons. In my career, I am the Director of Commercial Sales at Monk Office, and since 2004, I’ve enjoyed a successful career in sales and sales management. Born and raised in Sarnia, Ontario, I moved to Whistler in 1999 and have been on the West Coast since. We moved to Victoria in 2013. I have two sons, Jake 13, and Sam 10. Both boys play hockey with JDFMHA and I have coached both of their respective teams each year since they started playing. I am also a Team Leader with Metchosin Search and Rescue, and a Director on the Better Business Bureau of Greater  Victoria Board of Directors.
As a coach, my goal is simple: To assist in developing good, strong young men and women, developing good, strong young athletes, and developing good, strong players…in that order.
